Emily Sanders

Descendant of Walker Creek's founder, John Sanders. She's a business liaison for the Walker Creek local government.Got into a dispute with Mark Selton, owner of the Walker Creek General Store and claims that her life is in danger.

Notes

- Works for Mayor Jones/the Council interacting with businesses, settling disputes, organizing cooperation, etc.

- I've seen her talk and appear at a few events before if they're sponsored by a specific business (like Rob's Diner or something).

- She had to meet with Mark Selton, the general store owner, about some new project (?) and some supposed complaints/concerns from citizens about the General Store, something about Selton threatening people. Didn't get the full story yet. The issue went on for a few weeks, then eventually Selton got pissed, threatened her too, and showed up at her house a few days ago to threaten her further.

- She called the WCPD after his visit and said that management wouldn't respond her and that her life was in danger. (The question is, skinwalker Management or just WC Council Management?). She's had an officer or two with her ever since then including me.

- Selton is gone right now. Just up and disappeared. Some people are saying he just skipped town or had stuff to do, but it's too coincidental for my tastes.

- She's on the no host list on the Archive. Does she know about them?

- She might have info we can use. I'm currently wondering what the project she mentioned is. If it's from the WC Council/Jones then it could be interesting to know about. Also, as stupid as it is, SANDERS could be Emily. Alternatively she could be helping the Hosted or rebellion. That Trevor guy said that John Sanders knew about the skinwalkers in that legend, so maybe she does too. I'm just brainstorming but it could be something. Maybe she knows about John Sanders and other historical stuff. Who knows? Could be a wealth of information.

- Selton is a major member of the Hosted. The General Store is vital to the county as a whole, so he'll know things too if I can find him and interview him.

- I manipulated my way onto the case so I could talk to her. I'm interviewing her starting tomorrow. Even if it's useless for our purposes, saving the descendant of John Sanders from a skinwalker sounds like a good use of time anyway.

- If you have questions for either of them, send 'em my way and I'll try to fit them into my interviews. Also if you have ideas to find Selton then send 'em over.

Interview with Emily Sanders - 7/22

I'll just share the highlights.

Q: What exactly did Selton say when he arrived at your home?

A: He was chill at first and just trying to discuss it but when I told him I wouldn't change my mind, he started yelling. He said like...he didn't care about the list and that he was going to take me down. He already said he wanted to kill me a few days earlier, in his store.

Q: The list?

A: The no Host list. How do you not know? Are you a human??

Q: No, ma'am. What was he trying to change your mind about?

A: Removing him as the owner of the General Store because he wouldn't be part of our new project.

Q: Which is?

A: I can't tell you.

Q: You have to give me something to work with, Ms. Sanders.

A: Fine. The simple version is it's a surveillance program within Hosted shops to find rebels, monitor people. Selton didn't wanna be in. Probably related to the complaints he keeps getting.

Q: What complaints?

A: He's always been a bit of a bitch. There have been complaints, people saying they were threatened by him. There were rumors going around a few years ago about abuse. I think he didn't want to get surveilled while doing it.

Q: Is there anyone that might know more about that?

A: I don't know.

Q: So you're doing this project on behalf of Management?

A: Yes, who else would it be?

Q: I don't know. Was the project your idea? Could he be against it because of you?

A: No. I was assigned the project by Management.

Q: So do you think he's coming after you due to your family name? The Sanders family has a history with the Hosted, right?

A: Yes, my family has been helping them for a long time in exchange for protection. He's coming after me despite my name, not because of it.

Q: Do you have any ties to other groups? Selton might exploit them.

A: I...No.

Q: Do you have any idea where Mr. Selton might be?

A: No.

So she knows about the Hosted and works for them. The Sanders family has the whole time. She was weird about the other groups question. I'm still suspicious of her in regards to rebel activity. So the next step is to find Selton.

Update - 7/25/21

- I meant to write this earlier but I had to head up to Waterfield Park earlier today.

- I investigated the 2 leads Daniel told me, since he used to work for Selton. Simon, another worker, didn't know anything. And Selton's cabin was recently used but he wasn't there.

- He knows by now that we're all hunting for him. Humans and Hosted alike.

- I've been reading your messages and I think you're right about using Emily as bait. She has weapons (it's a rural area, everyone does). And anyway, we'll be nearby so I'm not too worried about her. I already convinced the department that it was the way to go.

- We'll be waiting in the woods nearby and watching for Selton come in. Word is that the Enforcer might even be there. I've never heard of the Hosted fighting their own kind but it'll sure be interesting to see.

- Plan starts today, so he could come anytime. I'll update when I can.

Update - 7/26/21

- We got Selton. He came to Emily's house and she held him at gunpoint until The Enforcer jumped in with a few officers and took him down.

- He's in the WCPD station right now and he's being transferred to a 'jail' in a few days but I'm sure he's actually being brought to The Home.

- I get one followup interview with Emily and one with Selton before he's transferred and then it's case closed. If you have anything, let me know.

Interview with Mark Selton - 7/27/21

Q: So, we captured you. Did you really expect you'd get to kill one of the no-Host folks?

A: Maybe. Maybe not. Doesn't matter to you.

Q: Why did you attack Ms. Sanders?

A: I'm sure she already told you all about it.

Q: I wanna hear it from you.

A: She wants to start that damn surveillance program, even on Hosts. But...I don't trust her. She's one of them. A rebel. I swear on the Harvest Star.

Q: What makes you say that?
A: The Mayors Office attack? She was there.

Q: Well of course she was. She works there. Got anything else?

A: She made it out unscathed. And someone had to have let the rebels in to plant explosives in the first place. I've been trying to tell people. She's going to use this new program for THEM.

Q: So that's what this is about? Not the accusations against you by customers? Oh, and your employees, for that matter.

A: No, because that's completely false. I'm doing my part of blending in with all these damn humans. We could move faster, be done with the whole goddamn Ascension by now if Management said so. Instead I'm stuck here going insane while we all just be like them.

Q: So you're angry at Management? Do you distrust them? The Harvest Star itself?

A: No, I...

Q: Maybe you're the one in the rebellion, Mr. Selton.

A: That's bullshit. I'm one of the most useful Hosts they've got. Why don't you send in the Tour Guide or someone who actually knows something?

Q: The Tour Guide will meet you in the Home, I think. Do you know the punishment for defying them?

A: Nobody's gone after a no-Host resident before. I expect execution. Maybe the box, if I'm lucky.

Q: What are you gonna do in the box?

A: Nothing. Just wait out the time.

Q: Well, I say have fun with that. I think my curiosity is satisfied.

A: Thanks, asshole.

2nd Interview with Emily Sanders - 7/28/21

Q: It's just mandatory procedure to do a closing interview for a case. Is that alright?

A: Yes, fine.

Q: So, you saw the interview. Do you still think him attacking you was still just about the program?

A: Obviously. He's deflecting. He just didn't want to get seen acting out in front of the humans. Do you know that Selton has more kills than almost anyone except Anthony and the Tour Guide? And maybe Adam.

Q: I didn't. Good to know though. Do you think someone might attack you again? Especially about this program.

A: The other Hosted have been accepting. They're not insubordinate like Mark, apparently.

Q: So he wasn't like this before?

A: Are you kidding me? He was a lapdog for them. Always questioning Adam and the Benefactor about bullshit suspicions, all while defending the Tour Guide.

Q: Interesting. Would you say it was rebellious behavior?

A: Absolutely not.

Q: Okay. What weapons did you defend yourself with? Just for the record.

A: I had two bear traps out back and a shotgun inside. I've got a few more but I wasn't planning to use 'em.

Q: Alright. And you're sure that you'll be staying on the no-Host list permanently?

A: Obviously. I'm a relative of the Founder. They respect us.

Q: Well would yo -

A: You're human, aren't you?

Q: I'm here to do my job, ma'am.

A: That's bold, Officer...

Q: Osborne. Can I finish the interview?

A: Sure.

Q: Would you consider yourself a history nerd? Being related to John Sanders and all.

A: That question doesn't feel related. I think you're reaching for something a little different than information about Mark, Officer Osborne.

Q: I'm just asking some questions ma'am. Is that your answer?

A: I have nothing else to say. Do you have everything you need for the case?

I said no and left. She seemed to respect me and didn't care about the fact that I'm human. She dodged the history question, but even if she said yes, it doesn't confirm anything.

That's it. Selton is gone, Sanders is back to doing whatever she was doing before. Case closed.
